Find Your Traveller Profile
Different trips call for different coverage. Here's what we recommend by traveller type.
Snowbirds
30–182 days abroadSpending winter in Florida, Arizona, or Mexico? Snowbird plans provide extended medical coverage for long stays, with options to cover pre-existing conditions during your entire trip.
- ✓ Stability period coverage
- ✓ Up to 212 days per trip
- ✓ Pre-existing condition riders available
Family Vacationers
1–3 weeksFamily plans cover everyone on one policy — often cheaper than individual policies. Trip cancellation becomes especially valuable when kids or parents fall ill before departure.
- ✓ Family bundle pricing
- ✓ Children often free under age 2
- ✓ Cancel for any reason add-ons
Business Travellers
Frequent short tripsAnnual multi-trip plans are ideal. One policy covers all your trips for the year, including emergency medical, device theft, and trip interruption — without rebooking a new policy each time.
- ✓ Annual multi-trip plans
- ✓ Electronics & device coverage
- ✓ Business document replacement
Students Abroad
1 month – 1 yearStudy abroad or exchange programs need longer-term coverage. Student travel plans are affordable, often include mental health coverage, and can be extended if your program runs long.
- ✓ Long-term coverage up to 1 year
- ✓ Mental health included
- ✓ Extendable mid-trip
Super Visa Insurance for Visiting Parents & Grandparents
If your parents or grandparents are visiting Canada from abroad on a Super Visa, the Canadian government requires proof of private health insurance as part of the application. We can help you get compliant coverage quickly.

What Affects Your Premium?
Understanding these factors helps you shop smarter — and get coverage that truly fits your trip.
Your Age
Older travellers pay higher premiums. A 65-year-old may pay 3–5× more than a 35-year-old for the same coverage.
Destination
USA destinations cost significantly more due to higher healthcare costs. Europe and Caribbean are mid-range. Domestic is lowest.
Trip Length
Longer trips cost more. Multi-week snowbird plans are priced differently than a 7-day vacation policy.
Pre-Existing Conditions
Stable conditions covered within the stability period may add a modest premium. Unstable conditions can significantly increase cost or require exclusions.
Coverage Amount
Higher coverage limits (e.g., $5M vs $1M emergency medical) increase the premium slightly but provide much greater protection.
Deductible Choice
Choosing a higher deductible ($500–$5,000) lowers your premium. Good for travellers who want catastrophic coverage only.
What's Typically NOT Covered
We believe in honest advice. Here are the most common exclusions — so there are no surprises when you need to make a claim.
Travel Advisories
Travelling to a destination under a Level 3 or 4 IRCC travel advisory (Avoid Non-Essential / Avoid All Travel) voids most coverage.
Pre-existing Instability
Conditions that changed (new meds, symptoms, or doctor visits) within the stability period are typically excluded from emergency medical claims.
Alcohol or Drug Impairment
Injuries or incidents occurring while under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs are generally not covered.
High-Risk Activities
Extreme sports (skydiving, base jumping, backcountry skiing) require an adventure sports rider. Standard plans exclude these.
Known Events
You can't insure against something you already know will happen — a hurricane already named, or a planned elective procedure abroad.
Cosmetic or Elective Procedures
Medical tourism — travelling specifically to have surgery or a procedure — is not covered by standard travel insurance.
Exclusions vary by insurer and policy. Marie can review your specific situation and recommend a plan that minimizes gaps in your coverage.
Travel Insurance FAQ
Answers to the most common questions we hear from travellers.
Don't Board Without Coverage.
A medical emergency abroad without insurance can cost more than your entire trip — sometimes your life savings. The right policy costs less than dinner for two.
